Helpful Tips for Landscape Photography at Longer Focal Lengths

When you think of landscape photography, you probably think of wide angle lenses for the majority of shots, but there’s more to life than just shorter focal lengths. This helpful video will give you some great tips for creating landscape images with longer focal length lenses.

Coming to you from Nigel Danson, this great video offers some insight on how to shoot landscape photos with telephoto lenses. Most landscape photography is shot with wide angle lenses, as these give the photographer the ability to take in more of a scene. But that’s not to say telephoto lenses don’t have a place in the genre, and certainly, they can actually be the better choice a lot of the time. A longer focal length can allow you to simplify a busy scene, and moving to even longer focal lengths can allow you to create beautiful abstract or minimalistic images. Personally, I love pulling out a long lens for winter scenes, where I can highlight a single element among the neverending snow. Check out the video above for Danson’s full tips.
